HOUSTON - With only three matches remaining in the 2009 regular season, the University of Houston volleyball team will decide two of those contests this weekend when they travel to UTEP and Tulane.
UH opens the weekend against UTEP at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars swept the Miners earlier this season to improve to 9-3 in the all-time series. Senior Erin Rice and sophomore Ingrida Zauere combined for 18 kills, while junior Amanda Carson had 12 digs.
The Miners enter the weekend with a 10-16 overall record and a 3-10 mark in league action. They lost matches against Tulsa and SMU last weekend.
The weekend series will continue on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Tulane. The Cougars will be looking for a sweep in the series this season after notching a 3-2 win over the Green Wave at the Athletics/Alumni Center earlier this season. The win was the Cougars' Conference USA home opener and it preserved a 14-0 overall record in C-USA home openers. Senior Kinsey Cave finished with a team-high 18 kills in the match.
The Green Wave stands at 15-7 and 10-3 this season after winning a match against SMU and falling to Tulsa last weekend.
Houston is 9-19 and 6-7 on the season after recording wins over Marshall and East Carolina in the final two games of their home slate.
Sunday's match against Tulane will air on tape delay on CBS C. Check your local listings for channel information and times. Jason Knapp and Anne Marie Anderson will be calling all the action.
Gametracker and live video streaming will be available for both matches by going to the volleyball schedule page at UHCougars.com.
Following the weekend action UH will return to Houston for the regular season finale at Rice on Nov. 12. The Conference USA Championship is scheduled for Nov. 20-22 at Rice University.
