HEAD COACH Joe Curl
On the game:
"We played really hard and physical. We did that for the most part of 40 minutes. I was a little disappointed the first 5 minutes of the second half but after that we dug down and found that toughness. It was a really tough, physical ball game. If someone looked at the score they could easily think it wasn't a good game to watch but that's the type of game I could watch every night. It was very defensively oriented and hard nosed. It was a tough game. They only shot 27 percent from the field and I'll take that any night."
On the players:
"Britney didn't play as well on offense as she usually does but she was there with her defense. Roxanne Button didn't play particularly well but she was on 11 for the majority of time. She gave us the initial toughness against 11 who had more points individually last year than they scored collectively as a team this year."
On the defense:
"We had a situation in the second half where we played the best defense I've seen since I've been here. We had great rotation and help defense there. If we can get the opponents to shoot 27 percent we'll take it every night and I think that's because we were everywhere defensively. We out toughed them, which says a lot because that Oregon State team is very good. They won 20 games last year and one of them as against us. They beat us up pretty well. This is very satisfying to see where the program is heading."
SOPHOMORE FORWARD Courtney Taylor
On Oregon State:
"They knew how to find their best player who was number 11. She wasn't on tonight but they are still very mentally sound and do good things. They're physical and have more size than we're used to."
On the loss last year:
"It definitely motivated us for this year. After the game last year, I was pretty embarrassed and mad because we didn't play well at all. This year our goal is to win conference and put Houston on the map. We wanted to pay them back for last year."
FRESHMAN GUARD Porsche Landry
On the game:
"I sacrificed my body. We've been playing two tough games on the road, and we had to have this home win. I felt if we pushed the ball more we could take advantage of them being slow."
