SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Houston golf team wrapped up its stay at the Lone Star Invitational on Monday afternoon with a 12th-place finish.
The Cougars posted a team score of 313 in the final round to finish the 54-hole event with a score of 923.
Seniors Jackie Lindsey and Beau Davis led the Cougars with the team's lowest scores of the tournament. Lindsey finished with a score of 226 to tie for 37th place, while Davis tied for 44th with a score of 230.
Other Cougars in action were junior A.J. Ferries (t-46th, 231) - who made his collegiate debut -junior Matt Eschenburg (57th, 240) and freshman Jordan Rumora (t-59th, 243).
After the team's most disappointing showing of the young season, head coach Jonathan Dismuke was frustrated but ready to compete again at next week's fall finale.
"I felt like we were making progress in a lot of areas, so this was a big step back for us," Dismuke said. "We will work hard this week and get ready to compete."
The Cougars return to action and wrap up their fall schedule Monday at the Husky Invitational, hosted by Houston Baptist, at Sienna Plantation Golf Club. The two-day tournament features 36 holes on Monday with the final 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday morning.
No. 18 Texas A&M won the team championship with a score of 848. No. 4 Texas placed second at 858, while No. 31 SMU (868), No. 42 Baylor (873) and UT Arlington (874) rounded out the top-five leaders.
Individually, Texas A&M's John Hurley earned medalist honors with a score of 10-under-par 206. Texas's Dylan Frittelli and Cody Gribble finished 2-3 with scores of 207 and 208, respectively.
