Tennis Travels to Nacogdoches to play SFA and Louisiana Tech

HOUSTON--The University of Houston tennis team travels to Nacogdoches, Texas Saturday to compete against Louisiana Tech at 10 a.m. and Stephen F. Austin at 2 p.m.
The Cougars enter the two matches after they went 2-1 in an away three-game series last weekend.
Houston kicked off the 2009 season last Friday with a win after sweeping Portland State, 7-0 in Portland, Ore. The doubles team of sophomores Lucy Forward and Laura Ring captured the first point of the day with a defeat over Molly Knox and Caitlin Stocking, 8-3. Senior Vicky Simpson won both her matches at the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-0.
On Saturday, in Eugene, Ore. junior Neila Starratt notched a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win in the No. 4 singles slot to lift the Cougars to a 4-3 win over Idaho.
Houston lost 6-1 to No. 58 Oregon on Sunday, after freshman Alix Young nabbed the lone point for the Cougars, earning a 6-4, 6-3 win over Siobhan Cavan in the No. 6 single slot.
UH opens their home season on Feb. 5 against Montana State at 11 a.m. at John E. Hoff Courts.
