HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team continued preparations for its game against No. 23 East Carolina on Wednesday, hitting the UH practice fields for an hour and a half.
It's a welcome return home for the Cougars, who had been displaced for more than a week due to Hurricane Ike. Head Coach Kevin Sumlin was impressed with his team's focus during practice.
"They really came out with a lot of energy," Sumlin said. "I know our guys feel a lot better about coming to their own locker room and doing things the normal way. I know that helps things tremendously."
Sumlin sees this weekend's game against the Pirates as an important test for his team.
"It's a big challenge for us but we are looking forward to it," he said. "It's our first conference game and we still have all our goals out in front of us for this year. It will be a great atmosphere and a great test for us."
The Cougars square off against ECU at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, in Greenville, N.C. Fans can hear the game live on 790 AM the Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sideline.
The pregame show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff.
In addition, the game will be televised on CBS College Sports (DirecTV channel 613/Dish Network channel 152) with Tom Hart and Trev Alberts calling the game.
