HOUSTON - Fresh off a dominating win in the season opener, the University of Houston football continued its preparations for this weekend's game at Oklahoma State with a solid workout Tuesday afternoon at the UH Athletics Complex.
The Cougars worked out for about two-and-a-half hours in full pads before calling it a day. Although the remnants of Hurricane Gustav continued to hit Louisiana and parts of east Texas, UH players and coaches enjoyed milder temperatures under partly cloudy skies before calling it a day.
The Cougars meet Oklahoma State at 6:05 p.m., Saturday, when at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Okla. Fans can hear the game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Jeremy Branham reporting from the sidelines. The pregame show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff.

Under the leadership of first-year head coach Kevin Sumlin and an award-winning staff, the Cougars (1-0) come the OSU game on the heels of a 55-3 win over Southern last weekend on John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. It was the most points scored by UH and the biggest win by a first-year head coach making his Cougar debut, and Sumlin was pleased with his team's overall performance.
"Last week was good for us. We were pleased as a staff at how our team responded," Sumlin said. "For the most part, our execution was pretty good, and our effort was good."
Although he most recently came to UH after a stint at Oklahoma, Sumlin said his experience in the state of Oklahoma will not be a factor in this weekend's game.
"I didn't work there (Oklahoma State)," Sumlin said. "It's a completely different place over there."
