Softball Hosts Mid-Week Game Against Sam Houston State

HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team will play host to a single game against Sam Houston State on April 23. The game set to begin at 4pm is a rescheduled game against the Bearkats that was rained out on Feb. 20.
Houston enters the game with a 40-7 overall mark and is 15-2 in Conference USA.
The Cougars went 3-2 last week splitting a doubleheader against Baylor and going 2-1 against Tulsa. For her efforts in the Cougars outings last week, junior Jessica Valis was named the C-USA Co-Hitter of the Week. She went 13-for-18 in five games including a triple in the Cougars game three win over Tulsa. The triple moved her into first place on the career triple charts with 12. Valis now leads the team and conference with a .442 batting average.
Senior Angel Shamblin continues to lead the league with a 0.65 ERA. Her 25 wins and .159 opposing batting average is also tops.
The Bearkats enter the game with a 29-24 overall record. In their last outing they registered a series sweep over Nicholls State.
Houston opened the season with a double-header against Nicholls State winning both games with scores of 2-1 and 4-3.
Hailey Wiginton leads Sam Houston State with a .404 batting average and pitcher Morgan Mikulin has a team best 1.77 ERA and has a 14-10 record.

Following the match-up with the Bearkats, Houston will head to Birmingham, Ala., for their final league series on the road. Houston will face UAB on April 26-27.
