Track and Field Wraps Up Competition in Tellez Invitational

HOUSTON -- Seun Adigun set a personal-record in the 100-meter hurdles, improving her regional qualifying mark in the event and leading the Cougars through the second day of the Tom Tellez Invitational at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
Adigun posted a time of 13.55, finishing in first place. Her time bettered the current fastest mark in Conference USA by nearly a second and was good for fifth-best in the Midwest Region.
In all, seven regional qualifying marks were set or improved upon by the Cougars on the second day of competition at the meet.
Tremaine Smith set a regional mark in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 21.29. For the women, Quin'shundolyn McPherson also set a regional mark in the 200m, finishing with a personal-best time of 23.70 - second in C-USA.
Kalyn Floyd competed in the 400-meters, finishing first and posting a regional qualifying mark with a time of 54.59. Floyd's time is currently the third fastest posted in C-USA this season.
In the triple jump, Caresir Hamilton set a qualifying mark with a clearance of 12.56m (41-02.50). Also setting a regional mark was the women's 4X100-meter relay team who finished first with a time of 40.68, the second fastest posted in C-USA.
The men's 4X100 relay team finished with a season-best time of 40.68 - the second-fastest mark posted in C-USA this season.
Ashley Bryant bettered her regional mark in the women's discus, posting a mark of 49.98m (164-00).
In the 110-meter hurdles, Steven Jones set a season-best with a time of 14.61. His mark is currently second in Conference. Wesley Bray also set a season-best in the event, finishing with a time of 14.90. Joining Jones and Bray was Darryl Cloud, who finished with a mark of 15.52.
In the jumps, Chris Carter took first in the triple jump with a leap of 14.98m (49-01.75), as Ed Turner finished in first place in the long jump with a mark of 7.11m (23-04.00).
Laura Allred tied her season-best in the high jump, clearing 1.70m (5-07.00). Her mark is currently tied for second in C-USA this season.
In other field events, Bryant finished with a mark of 46.31m (151-11) in the hammer throw. Joining Bryant was Danielle Upshaw (40.42m) and Kiara Pulliam (38.55m). For the men, William Krokey set a season best in the hammer throw with a mark of 53.11m (174-03). Brandon Hubbard also competed for UH and finished with a best of 50.20m on the day.
Hubbard led Houston in the discus, posting a mark of 47.68m (156-05). Krokey set a season-best in the event with a throw of 42.97m (141-00).
In the 100-meter dash, Tremaine Smith and Steven Jones posted season-bests with times of 10.77 and 11.18, respectively. Ed Turner posted a mark of 10.88. For the women, Seun Adigun (11.94) and Dayo Ogunniyi (11.95) both competed.
Lazarus Crumedy finished in first in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 48.43. Rounding out the top three finishers were teammates Tyron Carrier with a time of 50.40 and Dominic Milton with a time of 50.42.
Joining McPherson in the women's 200-meter dash was Ogunniyi (24.23), Floyd (24.79) and Candyce Cross (24.82). On the men's side, Justin Davis (21.78), Milton (21.92), Perez (22.15) and Jones (22.17) all competed.
In the distance events, Oumama Hallal led the way for the Cougars. Hallal finished in first in the women's 1500-meter run with a mark of 4:45.52. Jasmine Trier also competed and finished with a time of 5:07.82.
In the women's 800-meter run, LaNeeka Allen led Houston with a clocking of 2:18.91. Also competing were Lindsey Marshall (2:22.22), Hallal (2:34.12) and Trier (2:37.54)
For the men, Antony Keller ran the 5,000-meter run and posted a time of 16:42.64. Stephen Mganess and Mahmoud Harb ran the 800-meter run, posting marks of 1:53.57 and 2:03.70, respectively.
UP NEXT The Cougars return to action as they travel to Berkley, Calif. to compete at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational on April 25-26.
