Tulsa, Okla. -- The University of Houston softball team split a double-header with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Saturday in Tulsa, Okla. The Cougars won game one 10-2 and fell in the second game 1-0.
Junior Haley Valis hit a leadoff home run in the third inning to put Houston on the board in game one. The home run down the left field line was her seventh this season.
Behind 2-1, Houston took the lead for the first time in the game when junior Christa Raley hit a two-run home run to left field. She scored Haley Valis, who had reached base on a single. Houston took the lead in the fourth and held on the rest of the way. Raley's home run was her third this season.
Houston put up two more runs in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Houston loaded the bases and senior Amanda Grote hit a three-run double to give Houston their final 10-2 margin of victory.
Houston registered 12 hits in the game, their 18th double-digit hit game this season.
With the win, senior Angel Shamblin moves to 23-2 in the circle. She allowed two hits, two runs, one walk and seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.
In the second game of the double-header, Houston fell to the Golden Hurricane, 1-0 for just their second loss in Conference USA despite out hitting Tulsa 6-3.
Tulsa's single run came in the fourth inning after Sara Dyer reached base on a walk. After moving around the bases she scored on a wild pitch.
Senior Barbie Love pitched the complete game. She is 9-2 this season. Love allowed three hits, one run, three walks and three strikeouts.
Houston moves to 39-7 overall this season and 14-2 in conference play. They are now 5-4 in the all-time series against the Golden Hurricane.
