HOUSTON - University of Houston senior infielder Bryan Pounds was honored Monday as the Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week.
The Houston native helped lead the Cougars to a pair of wins last week, including an 8-5 victory over No. 12 Rice that evened the annual Silver Glove Series at a game apiece.
Pounds finished as the team's leading slugger in average (.476), hits (10), home runs (2), slugging percentage (.952) and on-base percentage (.520) with two doubles and a triple. He recorded at least two hits and one RBI in four of the five games last week.
In the win over No. 12 Rice, he finished 4-for-5 with two home runs - including a grand slam in the seventh inning that handed the Cougars the lead for good - and a career-high seven RBIs.
It was the first weekly C-USA award for Pounds during his career.
Pounds and his Cougar teammates return to action this weekend as they play host to C-USA rival UCF in a three-game series at Cougar Field. That series begins with 6:30 p.m. games on both Friday and Saturday before wrapping up at 1 p.m., Sunday.
