Baseball Closes Four-Game Homestand Against Lamar Tuesday

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team wraps up a four-game homestand against Lamar, Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. CDT at Cougar Field.
Houston (12-6) posted its eighth win in its last ten games Sunday, knocking off San Franciso 10-8. The Cougars have also won six of their last seven and tallied wins in all three of the team's weekend series in 2008.
Lamar (11-7) enter Tuesday's game after taking two of three from UT Arlington over the weekend. The Cardinals play their sixth-straight road game Tuesday.
UH leads the all-time series 46-22, including a 25-9 mark at Cougar Field. The Cougars have won the past three meetings overall in the series and eight-straight at home.

Taylor Hammack will take the mound for the Cougars Tuesday. The sophomore southpaw has made four appearances this season, including two starts. He has a 0-0 record and has fanned seven batters in six innings pitched.
Lamar will counter with junior lefthander Justin Walker. He is 0-2 on the season, striking out 10 in 19 innings pitched.
UH's Bryan Pounds looks to extend his 18-game hitting streak Tuesday. The senior has hit safely in all 16 games this season and his streak dates to the 2007 Conference USA Championship. The streak is tied for the sixth-longest mark in school history.
Pounds leads the team in batting average (.435), hits (27), home runs (4), RBI (19), slugging percentage (.710) and on-base percentage (.500).
Freshman reliever Barrett Bruce has made three appearances this season and earned the win all three times. In 7.0 innings pitched, Bruce has struck out 10 while holding opponent hitters to a .179 average, the best mark on the UH pitching staff.
After Tuesday's game, the Cougars play seven of their next eight games on the road, including opening C-USA play March 21-23 at East Carolina.
