Shamblin Named C-USA Pitcher of the Week

Dallas, Texas -- University of Houston pitcher Angel Shamblin was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 10 as announced by the conference office on Monday.
The Davie, Fla. native went 4-0 last week, including a 3-0 win over No. 21 Fresno State in the final game of the Bingham Toyota Classic in Fresno, Calif. Shamblin registered 38 strikeouts and did not allow a run or a walk in 25.0 innings of work. Against Texas on March 5, she had 15 strikeouts to tie her program and conference record for strikeouts in a game. She also came in and pitched 4.0 innings in the second game against Texas and did not allow any runs, striking out two. Shamblin had double-digit strikeouts in all three games and moved to 11-1 this season in the circle. Her 0.54 ERA leads the team.
Shamblin also hit .368 this weekend, registering seven hits including two doubles and five RBI. For her performance at the Bingham Toyota Classic she was named the tournament MVP.
This is Shamblin's 11th career weekly honor and her second this season. Her first award this season came on Feb. 18.
Houston will be back in action in Fresno, Calif. on March 11 in a double-header against Fresno State. First pitch is slated for 5pm.
