Women's Basketball Drops 66-57 Road Decision To Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. - The University of Houston women's basketball team saw its losing streak hit four games after a 66-57 loss to Tulsa, Thursday in Conference USA action at the Reynolds Center.
The Cougars (14-13, 8-5 C-USA) shot over 40 percent (23-for-55/.418) for the first time in three games but could not overcome 23 turnovers. Tulsa (10-16, 6-7 C-USA) snapped a five-game losing skid.
Down four at the half, Houston twice pulled the margin down to two in the opening three minutes of the second half. An 8-0 run by Tulsa moved the lead back to double digits, 41-31, with just under 15 minutes left in the game. UH would get no closer then four the rest of the game.
Whitney James (Edmond, Okla./Edmond Memorial HS/North Oklahoma College), Twiggy McIntyre (Sapulpa, Okla./Sapulpa HS/Kansas State) and Ryan Meyers (Arlington, Texas/Arlington HS/Grayson County CC) all tied for the team lead with 10 points.
Courtney Taylor (Crockett, Texas/Crockett HS) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and scored eight points. Cobilyn Hill (Houston, Texas/Eisenhower HS) had six points, five rebounds and three blocks.
UH won the battle in the paint 36-32 and tallied 16 points off of 13 offensive rebounds. The Golden Hurricane was 6-for-9 from behind the arc, compared to 2-for-14 for the Cougars. UH also struggled at the charity stripe, shooting 9-for-15 (.600). Entering the game, Houston was shooting free throws at a 71-percent clip.
Houston shot almost 50 percent in the first half (12-for-25/.480), but was down 31-27 at the break after turning it over 13 times in the first half. Tulsa converted those giveaways into 12 points.
The Golden Hurricane dominated the offensive glass by a 14-5 margin and tallied 13 second-chance points. Tulsa also was 5-for-8 (.625) from behind the three-point line.
Tatum Beer led all players with 15 points. ReShawndra Jackson scored 13 while Teka Brooks came off the bench to score 11 and grab seven rebounds. Larrissa Williams pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds while Chanel Johnson blocked four shots.
UH concludes a four-game league road swing at SMU Saturday. The Cougars face off with the Mustangs at 2 p.m. CST at Moody Coliseum.
