HOUSTON - Senior Justine Farmer and sophomore Lucy Charuk were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Midwest Region team, as it was announced by the AVCA Wednesday.
The two are now eligible for All-America status, which will be announced by the AVCA during the week of Dec. 15.
Farmer is a two-time selection to the Midwest Region team, having also been named to the team following the 2007 season. The El Paso, Texas, native ended her career at Houston as the school record holder in kills (2,145), total attempts (5,820), kills per set (4.52), digs (1,568) and digs per set (3.30). She collected 12 double-doubles this season and finished with a team-high 479 kills.
Farmer recorded double-digit kills in 28 of the 32 matches this season and was a 2008 All-Conference USA First Team selection. She is one of four current C-USA players to surpass the 1,000 kill and 1,000 dig totals.
Charuk is a first time selection to the AVCA team after leading the team with a .348 hitting percentage during the 2008 season. She also had 312 kills and tied a career-high with 21 blocks against Texas State on Oct. 7.
The Tsawwassen, British Columbia native finished the season with 158 total blocks and she was the only Cougar to record at least 100 blocks. That total ranked as the fourth most in the UH single season record books. In addition, she has 140 block assists, which set a Houston single season record.
The Cougars finished the 2008 season with a 20-12 record and a fourth place finish in C-USA. They also advanced to the semifinals of the C-USA Championship before falling to eventual champion, Tulane.
