HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team will wrap-up a month-long fall practice season Saturday. The fall practice schedule will culminate on Nov. 8 when the 2008 Cougar Baseball team receives their 2008 Conference USA Championship rings and will be honored at the Houston football game against Tulane.
In the final three days of the practice session, the Cougars will be playing their annual intrasquad fall world series. The team will be divided into two groups and will play each other in scrimmages on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Saturday's finale will start at 2:30 p.m. and will be open to the public.
Following the scrimmage the team will receive their C-USA Championship rings.
"I know they are all excited to put a ring on their finger because for a lot of those guys that was really on their mind for four years here," head coach Rayner Noble said. "I am glad they were able to accomplish that."
But the day will not end there, as the team will also be recognized during Saturday's Homecoming game against Tulane.
"Those guys deserve to be recognized," Rayner said. "They did a fabulous job at the end of the season and there is no better way to do that than in front of a large crowd at a football game."
The Cougars open the 2009 season on Feb. 20-22 when they play Kansas State in a weekend, non-conference series at Cougar Field. The series begins at 6:30pm on Feb. 20, continues at 4pm on Feb. 21 and will wrap up at noon on Feb. 22.
