Four Softball Players Announced NFCA Scholar-Athletes

STARKVILLE, Miss.--The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Wednesday the 2007-08 scholar-athletes honorees which included senior Katie Bush, and sophomores Jennifer Klinkert, Angela Spittler and Baillie Lott.
These four scholar-athletes were recognized with certificates on their outstanding performance in the classroom. They are required to have a 3.5 GPA to qualify for the individual honor.
For her excellence in the classroom last season, Bush was named to the 2008 Conference USA All-Academic Team and the 2008 ESPN THE MAGAZINE District 6 Second Team. Her degree is in kinesiology.
For her on-the-field performance, she was named to the All-Conference USA Second Team.
Klinkert claimed the C-USA Freshman of the Year honor last season with her .333 batting average and 13 home runs. She was also an All-Conference USA Freshman Team and All-Tournament Team member.
Lott finished the 2008 season with a 2.50 ERA, 49 strikeouts in 70 innings, and a record of 7-3.
Spittler hit a double last season in her collegiate debut as a designated hitter. She also made six starts at shortstop during the UTEP series, and C-USA Championships.

The Cougars will open the 2009 season on Feb. 6 against California, slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. in Cathedral City, Calif. as part of the Cathedral City Kickoff.
