Volleyball Sweeps Tulsa, 3-0

Tulsa, Okla. - Senior Justine Farmer and sophomore Lucy Charuk recorded double-digit kills as the University of Houston volleyball team swept Tulsa 3-0 (25-23, 25-18 and 25-20) Saturday night in the team's final road contest of the regular season.
Houston improved to 15-11 on the season and 7-6 in conference play.
Farmer had a team-high 16 kills to go along with Charuk's 10 kills as the Cougars hit .324 as a team, marking the seventh time this season Houston has hit over .300. Senior Kelsey King and sophomore Amanda Carson each notched game-highs in assists (37) and digs (16), respectively.
In the first set, both teams battled back and forth before the Cougars tied the score, 17-17, on a kill from freshman Ingrida Zauere. After two of the next three points went to the Cougars, Tulsa called its first timeout. Out of the break, Houston maintained the lead, winning the first set, 25-23.
Houston opened the first set on a 6-1 run and would never look back winning, 25-18. Farmer would score six of her kills in the second set on eight attempts for a .750 hitting percentage
UH would also win the third set, 25-20 to improve to 7-5 in three-set matches.
UP NEXT
Houston will return home to close out the regular season with three matches against Memphis (Nov. 7), UAB (Nov. 9) and Rice (Nov. 13). Prior to the Cougars home finale against Rice, the team will honor seniors Justine Farmer, Kelsey King and Barbara Freitas. Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Cougars will participate in the 2008 Conference USA Championship in Memphis, Tenn., on Nov. 20-23.
