Football's Patrick Edwards Recovering Following Surgery

HOUSTON - University of Houston freshman wide receiver Patrick Edwards underwent surgery late Tuesday night to repair a broken leg suffered at Conference USA rival Marshall.
Edwards suffered a compound fracture of his right leg midway through the third quarter during the Cougars' 37-23 loss to the Thundering Herd. While attempting to catch a touchdown pass, the Hearne, Texas, native collided at full speed with metal carts placed just outside the back of the end zone.
He was immediately taken to a Huntington, W.Va., hospital, where doctors placed a rod in his right leg. Edwards continued to rest at the hospital as of early Wednesday afternoon with team medical personnel hopeful for his return to Houston on Friday.
During his first collegiate season, Edwards emerged as one of the team's leading receivers, posting 46 catches and a team-high 634 yards with four touchdowns. With 86.3 receiving yards per game, Edwards ranked among the nation's top-30 leaders while his reception and yardage totals ranked among UH's top-two all-time freshmen single-season leaders.
