HOUSTON--The University of Houston softball team will host the third-annual Striking Out Breast Cancer double-header against Texas A&M on March 4, at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., team officials announced Thursday.
For the last two seasons, the softball team has raised close to $20,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Houston is asking for the fans to help by donating silent auction gifts, in addition to the pink jerseys worn by the players during the game. If you are interested in donating, please contact Chris Burkhalter at 713-743-9409 or by email, cburkha@central.uh.edu.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation Houston Affiliate.
Veronica Nordstrom, mother of Elaina Nordstrom, has thrown out the ceremonial first pitch to her daughter for the previous to seasons.
Last season, over 900 fans donated $10,000, and witnessed the Cougars take two from Texas in a double-header, 5-1 and 6-0. Nordstrom hit a walk-off grand slam in game two to earn Houston's second win.
In the 2007 season, Houston played Texas A&M in the breast cancer awareness game. Although the Cougars lost the two games, 3-0 and 4-3, a record-breaking 912 fans watched the double-header at Cougar Softball Stadium and raised $8,000 for breast cancer awareness.
