Hunt Picks Up Mid-Season All-America Honor
10/16/2008 12:00:00 AM | Football
Houston, Texas - University of Houston senior defensive end Phillip Hunt on Thursday was named a Second-Team, Mid-Season All-America by CollegeFootballNews.com.
A member of the Hendricks Award, Lombardi Trophy and Nagurski Award Watch Lists, Hunt is second in the nation in sacks with eight while tallying 10 tackles for losses and 19 total tackles. He also has a forced fumble and a pass breakup.
Hunt was recently named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in the Cougars' 45-20 come-from behind victory over UAB on October 9. With the Blazers up 20-3 at the half, Hunt and his defensive teammates shut out UAB after halftime, holding the Blazers to just 75 yards of total offense in the second half. Even with UAB holding the 34:34 to 25:26 advantage in time of possession, Hunt and the rest of the defense limited the Blazers to 2-of-16 on third-down conversions and forced three Joe Webb interceptions.
A unanimous First-Team, All-Conference USA selection in 2007, Hunt has racked up 28 career sacks and 42.5 tackles for losses...numbers that rank him third and fourth, respectively, on the all-time Houston leaders lists. Hunt was also a 2006 Second Team All-Conference USA selection and picked up C-USA All-Freshman accolades in 2005.
The game will be broadcast on 790 The Sports Animal beginning one hour prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff, with Tom Franklin handling the play-by-play duties, Ted Pardee as the color analyst and Chuck Brown working the sidelines.
