HOUSTON, Texas - The 2008 University of Houston women's tennis season will begin tomorrow, January 26, when the netters face Tyler Junior College at 2 pm at the John E. Hoff Courts on the UH campus. UH was to have faced Lee College at 10 am but the recent inclement weather has postponed that match.
Under the direction of fourth-year head coach John Severance, the Cougars are coming off their fourth straight Top 4 Conference USA finish in 2007. Houston posted a 13-9 mark in match play last season.
The Cougars return three letterwinners from last season, including senior Leila Salek who finished with 17-5 record in singles play during the 07 spring. Junior Vicky Simpson and sophomore Neila Starratt also lettered for Severance's squad.
Houston has five newcomers on this year's squad, including three freshmen and two transfers.
The match against Lee College will be played on February 13, at 2 pm at the Hoff Courts.
