Track and Field Makes First Road Trip in 2008

HOUSTON - The University of Houston track and field team will take to the road this weekend for the first time in 2008. The Cougars will travel east to Arkansas for the Arkansas Invitational, site of the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships. It will mark the first of three trips to Arkansas for the Cougars, including the championships.
The meet is scheduled to begin on Feb. 25 with the multi events at noon. Field events will begin at 3pm with the running events at 6:30pm. UH has athletes competing in all the field events on the opening day including the 200 meters and the women's distance medley relay.
The Arkansas Invitational will conclude on Feb. 26. The Cougars will compete in the running events set to begin at 10 am and the field events will start at 2pm.
The Cougars are one of 43 schools expected at the meet this weekend. Jackson State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas and Texas A&M are among the schools at the meet. Houston has faced these schools in the opening weeks of the season at Yeoman Field House.

LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Brandon Hubbard paced the Cougars last weekend at the Leonard Hilton Memorial. The College Station, Texas native set an indoor record in the weight throw with his throw of 16.49m (54-01.25). He also set a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 15.30m (50-02.50).
Senior Tremaine Smith and junior Seun Adigun also earned wins for the Cougars at the meet. Smith finished first in the 60 meters with a finish of 6.80. The finish also leads the conference. Adigun won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.37 to lead the conference in the event.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
Through the first two weekends of the 2008 indoor season, Houston has multiple Cougars ranking among the conference leaders. Also leading all C-USA athletes is sophomore Steven Jones (60-meter hurdles; 8.21), sophomore Justin Davis (400 meters; 48.71), senior Ivan Diggs (high jump; 2.22m/7-03.25), sophomore Alex Bentley (pole vault; 5.05m/16-06.75), junior Jeremy Kelley (15.13m/49-07.75), and the men's 4x400-meter relay team (3:18.34).
Besides leading the league Adigun's finish in the 60-meter hurdles is also 11th best in the NCAA and Diggs' high jump mark is second.
Through two weeks of the indoor season two Cougars have met NCAA Indoor Championship provisional marks and they are Adigun and Diggs, both who set their marks during the first weekend of the season.
UP NEXT
Following the trip to Arkansas, the Cougars will return home for the Houston Indoor Invitational and Multis on Feb. 1-2 and then the Bayou City Championship on Feb. 9.
