HOUSTON - University of Houston track and field athletes senior Ivan Diggs and junior Seun Adigun swept Conference USA Athlete of the Week honors as announced by the conference office today.
Diggs won the high jump competition at the Houston Indoor Opener on Jan. 12. His clearance of 2.22m (7-03.25) was an NCAA provisional mark and is currently the second best jump in the NCAA. The jump set a new indoor personal best for Diggs. He was just shy of the automatic mark of 2.24m. This is the first Athlete of the Week honor for the Wichita, Kan. native.
Adigun also set an NCAA provisional mark for the Cougars at the Houston Indoor Opener, earning the Chicago, Ill., native her first Athlete of the Week award. She finished the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles with a finish of 8.40 and went on to win the college division of the event. Adigun's finish is the third best time in the NCAA.
Houston will be at home next weekend for the Leonard Hilton Memorial on Jan. 18. The meet starts at 11 am with the field events and the running events begin at 3pm. UH will also host the annual Carl Lewis High School Invitational on Jan. 19 beginning at 9am.
