Volleyball Wins Second Straight Over UT-San Antonio

San Antonio, TEXAS -- The University of Houston volleyball team defeated UT-San Antonio Thursday night in their second match in as many days. It would take five games (30-27, 28-30, 21-30, 30-26, 18-16) to knock off the Roadrunners (3-5).
For the second straight night the Cougars (3-3) took their opponents to five games, defeating Cal State Bakersfield (30-22, 17-30, 20-30, 30-28, 15-13) Wednesday at the Athletics/Alumni Center.
Junior Justine Farmer recorded her third double-double on the season and the second in two days with 34 kills and 19 digs. Her 99 attacks were also a career high and rank as the most in Cougar single match history.
Freshman Robin Fitzgerald added a career-high 67 assists with 10 digs for her second career double-double.
UH fell behind 1-2 entering game four and would need the win for a chance to win the match. After trailing 6-2 early in the game, Houston would rally behind Farmer who had 10 kills to pull the Cougars into the lead coming away with a 30-26 win to force game five.
The Cougars had a battle in game five. Neither team was ready to give up and kept the score within two the entire way. It wasn't until Farmer got her final kill of the night, were the Cougars able to pull away. A blocking error called on the next play against the Roadrunners would finally seal the deal at 18-16.
UTSA was led by Kendra Rowland who had 29 kills and 13 digs.
Houston will continue on to San Marcos, Texas for the CentruyTel Premier hosted by Texas State in the Strahan Coliseum. The Cougars will face the Bobcats at noon on Friday and then Missouri at 5 pm. They will wrap-up the tournament at 2 pm on Saturday against Cal State Fullerton.
