Soccer Closes Out Homestand With UTSA & TCU

HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team finishes off a season-long three-game homestand this weekend with matchups against UTSA and TCU.
The Cougars (4-2-1) and UTSA (1-6-1) face each other for the second time ever. UH won the inaugural matchup 1-0 in double overtime last season in San Antonio.
Houston and TCU (3-5) have faced off each year since 1998. TCU holds a 7-2 lead in the all-time series and has won the last four meetings. The Horned Frogs enter the game on a three-match losing streak.
The UH-TCU match will be aired nationally by CSTV on a tape-delayed basis. Ann Schatz (play-by-play) and Tammy Blackburn (analyst) will call the action. The game is slotted to air on Oct. 2.
UH, 3-0-1 on the home turf this season, is coming off a 3-1 victory against Houston Baptist this past Tuesday night on John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
Islara Rodriguez (Houston, Texas/Awty International School) and Lauri Byrne (Southlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll HS) both have a pair of goals on the season to tie for the team lead.
Shelby Scott (Mesquite, Texas/North Mesquite HS) has started all seven matches between the pipes and has collected 52 saves, allowing 10 goals.
UTSA enters on a five-match slide. The Roadrunners are led by Ezinne Okpo with three goals on the season and Veronica Najera who has found the back of the net twice.
TCU is led by freshman Jackie Torda who has tallied five goals in eight games this season. Kelsey Walters has made five starts in goal and has a 1.59 goals against average with 37 saves.
