HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team held their final practice Thursday in preparation for the home opener against Colorado State on Saturday. The Cougars practiced in shirts and helmets for about an hour and half on the UH practice fields.
After practice head coach Art Briles said it was nice to have the consistency of practicing outside all week.
"Practice went well. This is the first we have been out on our fields for three days in a row since the first part of August. It was nice to get back into comfortable surroundings and it just carries over to Saturday being in Robertson Stadium. We are excited about being at Robertson Stadium and having a great crowd with a lot of energy to open up our 2007 season here at home," Briles said.
The Cougars will have a final walk through and video session Friday before they take to the field on Saturday.
"We will do a walk through tomorrow evening and a film study tomorrow night and get ready to go play on Saturday. We are ready. It's time (to play)," Briles said.
After two weekends on the road, the Cougars finally appear in front of the hometown fans when they play host to Colorado State at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, at the friendly confines of John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
Fans can hear the game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sideline. The pregame show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff.
Saturday's game also will be televised live nationally on CSTV (DirecTV channel 610) with Carter Blackburn calling the play-by-play action and Brian Jones providing color analysis. It will be the first of three nationally televised games for the Cougars in 2007.
