Volleyball Set to Host Houston Tournament

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team is preparing to host the Houston Tournament this weekend. This will be their third tournament in three weeks and their last of the season.
Houston will open tournament play Thursday against Rice at 7pm. This will be the 68th meeting between the two schools and Houston holds a 56-12 lead in the all-time series and are 30-11 in the Bill Walton era. Last season, the Cougars split with the Owls in the regular season and earned a 3-0 win during the Conference USA Tournament.
In the their second match of the Tournament, Houston will face Stephen F. Austin at 7pm on Friday. Prior to the match, Rice will play Wake Forest at 5pm. SFA enters the tournament on a four-game winning streak. They trail the Cougars in the all-time series 15-3 but won the last contest in 2006, 2-3, at the Austin Bank SFA Tournament.
The Cougars conclude play at the tournament on Saturday night at 7pm when the host Wake Forest. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
Houston enters the tournament after losing three straight at the CenturyTel Premier in San Marcos, Texas last week. UH was led by junior Justine Farmer who recorded three of five straight double-doubles at the tournament, going on to be named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week.
Following this weekends tournament, the Cougars will travel to UCF on Sept. 21 and then return home for a match against Southern Miss on Sept. 23.
