SURREY, British Columbia - University of Houston junior pitcher Angel Shamblin will play for the Gold Coast Hurricanes at the 2007 Canada Cup International Women's Fastpitch Tournament.
The 14-team tournament kicked off Saturday and continues with pool play through July 5. After pool play is complete, the top four teams in each seven-team pool advance to the championship round on July 6 and 7.
"You have to play against the best if you want to continue to get better," Shamblin said. "Playing on the international level will be a great experience and an opportunity for me to improve as a player."
The Hurricanes open the tournament Sunday at 8:30pm CDT against Team Canada. Shamblin's team also gets to face the Dominican Republic, Japan, Venezuela, Japan's Denso Club and the Georgia Wilson Select in pool play.
"I'm very excited that Angel will get a chance to continue her success on the international level," head coach Kyla Holas said. "The Canada Cup is the type of event that allows softball to be fun. I look for her to well."
