Floyd Wins 100 Meters At LSU Alumni Gold

Baton Rouge, La. -- The University of Houston track and field team traveled to Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday to compete in the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational. The Cougars recorded two wins behind senior Ebonie Floyd's top finish in the 100 meters. Her time of 11.40 was an NCAA Regional Qualifying time and ranks as the fifth fastest time in Cougar history.
Junior Ivan Diggs earned a win in the high jump competition after clearing 2.06m/6-09.00 and coming in fourth was senior Tristian Whitley.
Freshman Brandon Hubbard threw the hammer 40.31m/132-03, enough to finish 13th and to earn a spot in the UH record books as the fifth best throw in history.
The Cougars qualified two relay teams for the NCAA Regional in Des Moines, Iowa. The women's 4x100 team of sophomore Seun Adigun, freshman Quin'shundolyn McPherson, freshman Dayo Ogunniyi and Floyd finished fourth with a time of 45.33. The men's 4x400 team of junior Kolee Latson, freshman Justin Davis, freshman Pearson Crichlow and senior Chris White finished fourth with a time of 4:09.79.
Latson was seventh with an NCAA Regional Qualifying time of 47.04 in the 400 meters. McPherson added a second place finish in the triple jump after clearing 12.74m/41-09.75, enough to qualify for the NCAA Regional.
Freshman Ashley Bryant finished third in the discus and was 13th in the hammer throw. In other field events, Ogunniyi was ninth in the long jump after clearing 6.02m/19-09.00. That was enough to qualify her for the NCAA Regional and set a personal best. Senior Rachel Easley was seventh in the high jump and junior Ashley Ligon added a 13th place finish in the pole vault.
In the women's distance events, junior Adriane Guinn finished second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:37.13. Junior Oumama Hallal also finished fourth (4:40.69), sophomore Jennifer Harper seventh (4:44.57) and freshman Jessica Cook and sophomore Kelcee Keenan finished 13th and 17th, respectively. Harper was also 10th in the 800 meters. Junior Eva Madrid finished 10th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 20:22.93.
Freshman LeeA'ndrea Robinson finished 10th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.04. On the men's side, freshman LaMarcus Hunter was 13th in the 110-meter hurdles.
In the men's 1,500-meter race, freshman Ahmed Harb was 12th (3:45.89), freshman Daniel Martinez was 13th (3:59.54) and senior Paul Goodwin was 19th.
Senior Tremaine Smith was ninth in the 100 meters with a time of 10.74.
Senior Lucas Mireles turned in a ninth place finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.95m/52-04.00. Sophomore Jeremy Kelley and sophomore Grant Hightower each turned in 10th place finishes in the triple jump and long jump, respectively. Freshman Courtney Beasley was 12th in the pole vault. Sophomore Andy Tackett recorded an eighth place finish of 56.95m/186-10 in the javelin and junior Jarrett Flax was ninth (56.40m/185-00).
The Cougars will travel to Berkley, Calif., April 27-28 for the California Relays before the C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Rice University on May 10-12.
