Track and Field Inks Five for 2007-08 Season

HOUSTON - Head track and field coach Leroy Burrell announced the signing of Chris Carter, Quentin Luttrell, Derek Schutz, Brandon Myers and Ed Turner to National Letters of Intent on Friday.
The five athletes will join the team for the 2007-08 season along with nine athletes who signed with the Cougars in the fall.
Carter (Hearne, Texas) is a long and triple jumper from Hearne High School. He also runs the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Carter won the high school long jump competition with a jump of 7.18m/23-07.00 at the 80th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on April 4-7. He has personal bests of 23-7 in the long jump and 51-02.50 in the triple jump. Carter's triple jump ranks second in the state. He finished second in both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles at the 2007 Regional meet with times of 15.04 and 39.04, respectively.
Luttrell (Milwaukee, WI) is a sprinter from Marshall High School. He was an Indoor AAU Champion in the 60 meters (6.49) and has the second fastest 100 meter indoor time of 10.42 in the state. He also has the fastest 200 meter indoor time of 22.49 in Wisconsin.
Schutz (Houston, Texas) is a pole-vaulter from St. Thomas High School. He is a 2007 District Champion with personal best of 15-01.00.
Myers (Houston, Texas) is a sprinter from Eisenhower High School. He was a member of the IAAF World Junior Team in Beijing, China and was recently featured on the cover of RISE magazine's April edition. He is a 2006 State Champion and has a personal best 10.45 in the 100 meters.
Turner (Katy, Texas) is a long jumper from Mayde Creek. He ranks third in the state with a long jump of 24-03.50. Turner has consistently jumped over 24 feet since his freshman year and will also run the 100 meters and be a member of the 4x100 meter relay team at Houston.
The Cougars are in Norman, Okla. this weekend for the 38th John Jacobs Invitational with starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with the distance carnival and continues Saturday at 11 a.m.
