HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team began spring practice Tuesday on the UH Practice Fields. The Cougars had a light practice in t-shirts and shorts on Tuesday and Wednesday to start spring drills.
"The last two days have been very encouraging to begin with, because of the attitude, effort and demeanor of our football team. We have a confident team and we have a team that has good direction and focus," head coach Art Briles said.
UH will practice in full pads on Thursday before Spring Break on March 12-16. They will return to practice on March 20.
"Tomorrow we will go full pads and heat it up a little bit and get a little more physical. We won't try and demolish each other but we will have a chance to get on the field and be in pads on both sides of the ball," Briles said.
In the early stages of spring practice Briles has been impressed with the progress the Houston defense has been making.
"The defense has really looked well. They are really moving around and playing smart so that's very encouraging because that's what you win with," Briles said.
Spring practice concludes on April 7 with the annual Red-White Game at 10 a.m. at the Carl Lewis International Track Complex. A complete list of Spring Football Dates can be found at www.uhcougars.com.
