HOUSTON - Trailing 3-2 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the University of Houston baseball team saw six straight batters reach safely to turn a one-run deficit into a three-run lead on the way to an 8-3 win over Princeton on Sunday during the finale of a non-conference series.
After two quick strikeouts to start the seventh inning, Chris Wallace and Zak Presley drew back-to-back walks. Ryan Lormand then laced a single into left field to plate Wallace and tie the game at 3-3. Bryan Tully smashed a double into left field to score Presley and Lormand, and Jimmy Cesario's double to left scored Tully to give the Cougars a 6-3 cushion.
The Cougars would add two more runs in the eighth inning on another two-out, two-run double from Tully for the final margin of victory.
After dropping the first two games of the series by a combined 25-1 margin, Princeton jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead following back-to-back homers from Greg Van Horn and Aaron Prince.
However, UH starter Luis Flores and reliever Chris Wright combined to hold the Tigers to only one more run off nine hits with four strikeouts the rest of the way. Wright collected the win and improved to 2-0 after limiting Princeton to two hits in 2.1 shutout innings.
Princeton reliever David Hale picked up the loss and fell to 0-1 after giving up four runs off three hits with three strikeouts in one inning.
Tully went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles and three RBIs, while senior shortstop Dustin Kingsbury batted 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Cougars, who were outhit 11-8.
Van Horn went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, while Dan DeGeorge batted 2-for-3. Sal Iacono finished the day 2-for-4, and Spencer Lucian batted 2-for-4 with a run in the losing effort.

Princeton grabbed its first lead of the series in the first inning when Van Horn and Prince led off with back-to-back home runs.
The Cougars cut that lead in half in the third inning. Zak Presley reached second on a Princeton infield miscue to lead off, advanced to third following a groundout and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Tully laced a one-out single through the left side and stole second to move into scoring position. After moving to third on a groundout, Kingsbury's RBI-single to center field knotted the game at 2-2.
Princeton regained the lead in the seventh inning. Lucian led off with a single through the left side and moved up following a wild pitch. Two batters later, Micah Kaplan lifted a looping single into shallow right field that allowed to score and hand the Tigers a 3-2 lead.
