HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team learned from the NCAA Thursday afternoon that it has earned a 7-0 forfeit victory over Missouri State.
The game was originally part of the Crowne Plaza Classic last weekend and was not played because Missouri State failed to take the field.
"We're pleased about the ruling from the NCAA and the support received by our administration," head coach Kyla Holas said. "The win is nice but that was not the focus of it. I believe there are some loopholes in our system. Even with the ruling, I'm still going to pursue this further during the offseason with our rules committee."
The Cougars (7-6) open the Marriott Houston Hobby Invitational Friday against McNeese State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm and 7:30pm, respectively.
