Tennis Shuts Down Prairie View A&M

HOUSTON - The University of Houston tennis team rolled past Prairie View A&M 6-0 in singles action Friday afternoon at Hoff Courts.
"I was proud of how our team put the Florida State loss behind them," head coach John Severance said. "We did a good job of playing high percentage tennis."
The Cougars improve to 7-2 and have won 23 of their last 24 matches at home dating back to the 2005 season.
Leila Salek, Vicky Simpson, Lindsay Willeford and Loli Gomez all dominated and combined to drop only five games between them. Gomez and Salek notched 6-0, 6-1 wins, while Simpson came away with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Willeford stormed to a 6-0, 6-2 appearance in her second appearance as a Cougar at the No. 6 position.
Sonja Nikolic and Anna Djananova completed the sweep, winning 6-1, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-3 respectively.
Houston returns to the courts Monday afternoon against No. 52 LSU. First serve against the Tigers is slated for 1pm. Admission is free to Hoff Courts.
"LSU is going to be another challenge for us," Severance said. "Like Texas A&M and Florida State earlier this season, we're going to have to play our best tennis to have a chance to pull off an upset."
