HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team practiced in helmets and jerseys today under cloudy skies and unusually humid weather for the week.
"Practice was a good final tune-up for the game on Saturday," head coach Art Briles said. "We're where we need to be at this stage of the week and we're confident and prepared."
This will be the final regular season road game for the Cougars as they travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma to help secure the top spot in the West Division. Houston is coming off a Sunday night 38-28 win over SMU that was televised nationally by ESPN.
The Cougars continued to work on every aspect of the team, offense, defense and special teams as they rounded out their weekly practice. Briles said that they're focusing on how every aspect of the team can come together to get another win.
"We worked on the mental understanding of both sides of the ball and special teams," Briles said, "what they bring to the table, how we need to counteract it and what we need to bring to the table on our end."
Tomorrow will be a wrap-up day before the team heads to Tulsa where they'll have a walk-around Saturday morning and hit the field to determine who will move to the top of the West Division.
The Cougars will face the Golden Hurricane at 2 p.m., Saturday at H.A. Chapman Stadium in Tulsa, Okla. Fans can hear Saturday's game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sideline. The pregame show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff.
