Houston - - The University of Houston football team continued its preparations for Saturday's Conference USA Western Division Showdown at Tulsa with a two-and -one-half hour workout on the UH Practice Fields Wednesday afternoon.
Saturday's game kicks off at 2:00 p.m. at H.A. Chapman Stadium in Tulsa. The Cougars enter the game with a 6-3 record and are 5-1 in Conference USA play after defeating SMU 38-28 in a nationally-televised game last Sunday night at Robertson Stadium. Tulsa is 6-3 overall this season, including a 4-2 league record.
"This is fun," Houston head coach Art Briles said. "They have done a good job of getting to this point just like our players have."
Houston enters the game with a 3-2 record in road games this season, including a 3-0 record in road games this season.
"It helps because we have proven to be a tough team on the road this year," Briles added. "We pride ourselves on playing really tough on the road. That is something that I realized we would have to do when I came here in 2003. If you are going to win championships, you have to be a tough road team."
Tulsa has proven to be just as tough at home this year as the Golden Hurricane own a 3-0 record in C-USA home games and are 4-1 overall at home this season.
Fans can hear Saturday's game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sideline. The pre-game show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff. Fans also can follow live stats over the Internet by clicking the Gametracker link at UHCougars.com. This weekend's game will go a long way in determining the C-USA West Division representative at the C-USA Championship Game on Dec. 1. A Cougar win gives UH its second straight division crown and the chance to defend its 2006 title in the C-USA Championship Game. If Tulsa wins, the two teams will drop into a tie in the loss column with the Golden Hurricane holding the tiebreaker over the Cougars.
