HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team practiced outside in low temperatures after a cold front came through Houston last night.
Head coach Art Briles and the team finished this week's practice in jerseys and helmets. They polished up plays and fine-tuned the game plan before facing Marshall in the UH Homecoming game this Saturday.
"We had a good workout," Briles said. "It was very focused, very conscious of what we have to take care of from a football team standpoint and our guys are aware of what we need to do to win the game Saturday."
A win this weekend would solidify the Cougars at first place in the West Division should Tulsa lose to Rice on Nov. 24.
"Saturday's game is huge to us," Briles said, "aside from the conference standings and everything else, it's huge to us to play well as a football team. We don't feel like we did that a week ago and we're blessed for this opportunity so we're going to take full advantage of that."
As the homecoming game for UH, Briles said this is a very important game and the team has been working hard during practice to ensure a win for all of the students, former and current, that come out to support the team.
"Homecoming is always special because it involves a lot of people," Briles said. "We really want to do our job to represent our alumni this Saturday."
The Cougars face Conference USA rival Marshall at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. Fans can hear Saturday's game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sideline. The pregame show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff.

This weekend's game also will be televised live in the Huntington, W.Va., area on WOWK-TV with Dave Weekly handling the play-by-play duties and John Gregory providing color analysis.
