HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team returned to work Tuesday afternoon with a solid workout on the UH practice fields.
Working out in full pads under wet conditions, the Cougars practiced for about two hours before calling it a day. After the session, head coach Art Briles said he was pleased with the way his team rebounded from last weekend's loss at Tulsa.
"They rebounded just like we anticipated they would and should. That was with total determination, total effort and total focus," Briles said. "We don't have an alternative way to make this better. The only way to make it right is to do everything right every day, and that's our motto this week."
The Cougars face Conference USA rival Marshall at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. Fans can hear Saturday's game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sideline. The pregame show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff.
Fans also can follow live stats over the Internet by clicking the Gametracker link at UHCougars.com.
This weekend's game also will be televised live in the Huntington, W.Va., area on WOWK-TV with Dave Weekly handling the play-by-play duties and John Gregory providing color analysis.
The Cougars come into the game after a surprising 56-7 loss at C-USA West Division rival Tulsa last weekend in Oklahoma.
"It's not pleasant and not what we expected but how we respond to it will determine what type of men we are," Briles said. "I'm very thankful for the opportunity we have on Saturday. I know how we're going to respond. We've got a job to do, and we're going to do it."
That loss knocked the Cougars into a tie with the Golden Hurricane for the Division lead. However, Tulsa would advance to the C-USA Championship Game with the tiebreaker against the Cougars.
Houston can make the league's Championship Game for the second straight season with a win over the Thundering Herd this weekend and a Tulsa loss at Rice on Nov. 24.
