HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team announced the details of the Second Annual Striking Out Breast Cancer game to be held March 5, 2008 with the Cougars playing host to Texas for the first time. All ticket sales and proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen foundation for the Cure Houston Affiliate.
"It's important any time we can do something as women in sports to enhance and support something as crucial as breast cancer awareness," head coach Kyla Holas said. "We want to show our support and hopefully get a lot of people out in recognition of this event and in honor of the Susan G. Komen foundation.'
The Cougars will be trading in their traditional white home uniforms for pink jerseys to support Breast Cancer Awareness. A silent auction will be held during the doubleheader with the pink jerseys and pink helmets being auctioned off, along with several other donated items. In addition, all of the ticket revenues will also be donated to the Komen Houston Affiliate.
Last year, the team raised over 8,000 dollars for the foundation in its game against then-ranked No. 4 Texas A&M.
Texas was an NCAA Softball Regional Championship participant in 2007. The Cougars have already faced Texas in their fall tournament scheduled. Houston posted an 11-2 run-rule over the Longhorns in the Spring Klein Classic on October 11.
