Volleyball Prepares For Final Regular Season Road Series

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston volleyball team takes to the road this weekend for their final road series of the regular season. Houston plays the UTEP Miners on Friday at 8pm in El Paso, Texas to open the weekend and will face the Tulane Green Wave at 1pm on Sunday.
The Cougars are 7-2 in the all-time series with the Miners and 5-1 under head coach Bill Walton. Houston defeated UTEP earlier this season in five games. Justine Farmer led the way for the Cougars with 31 kills and 15 digs in the win.
UTEP is 2-11 in league play and 8-16 on the season. They enter the match having lost their last two matches against Tulsa and SMU.
UH defeated Tulane 3-0 earlier in the season and moved to 22-4 in the all-time series against the Green Wave and 17-4 under Walton. Tulane defeated Tulsa and SMU last weekend moving to 11-2 in C-USA and 23-5 overall.
Last Time Out
Houston hosted East Carolina and Marshall last weekend at the Athletics/Alumni Center. The Cougars defeated ECU 3-1 behind Farmer's 28 kills and 24 digs. UH closed out the weekend against Tulane falling in three games. Farmer again led the team with 20 kills and 13 digs.
Around The League
In conference action this season the Cougars rank second in blocks (116.5) and fourth in kills (688) and digs (811). Houston also ranks fifth in assists (620) and service aces (79) and sixth in hitting percentage (.205).
Individually, Justine Farmer leads the league in kills (6.09 p/g) and points (303.0) and Hannah Sullivan leads the league in service aces (27). She is also seventh in points (202.0). Libero Amanda Carson sits in sixth in digs with 214 (4.76 per game) and Erin Rice is third in the league in blocks with 54.0 (1.26 per game).
Next Up
The Cougars will return home next weekend for their final weekend of the regular season. They will play SMU on Nov. 9 and Tulsa on Nov. 11 before heading to Huntington, W. Va., for the Conference USA Volleyball Tournament on Nov. 15-18.
