Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Houston volleyball team fell to the Tulsa Hurricane Friday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Cougars fell in three games with scores of 14-30, 24-30 and 24-30.
Houston (8-8, 3-2 C-USA) was led in the match by freshman Hannah Sullivan's fourth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 10 digs.
As a team, the Cougars were held to just 34 kills, the lowest total this season.
After dropping game one, Houston looked to even the score in game two but it wasn't going to be. UH held an early two-point lead, 7-4, but two Houston errors and a kill by Tulsa's Fabiola Nepomuceno tied the game and Tulsa took back the lead. Houston would battle from behind the rest of the way but it wouldn't be enough as Tulsa earned the seven-point victory.
With one final chance to extend the game, Houston kept game three close through the halfway mark but late in the game Tulsa pulled away mounting a six-point lead, 24-18. Houston cut the lead to three but the win was just out of reach. Junior Justine Farmer had six kills in the game with a .312 hitting percentage to lead the UH in game three.
Tulsa was led in the win by Nepomuceno's 17 kills.
The Cougars dropped their second straight conference match after falling to the Rice Owls back on Sept. 27.
The Cougars will be in Dallas, Sunday to finish their weekend series against SMU at 1pm. Following this weekend's action, the Cougars will return home for two matches against Tulane (Oct. 12) and UTEP (Oct. 14).
