The University of Houston football team enjoyed a pleasant surprise when former UH standout and current Philadelphia Eagle quarterback Kevin Kolb watched them at practice Wednesday afternoon on the UH practice fields.
"It really means a lot to players to have him out here because he is great friends with all of them," Houston head coach Art Briles said. "They have been in all the same fights on the field and bled the same blood. It means a lot to have one of our family members come back just as it is when any of our ex-players come back, especially him because of the season we had last year and with him being a prominent part of it."
The Cougars concluded their second workout this week in preparations for Saturday's game at Alabama. The game will kick off at 2:07 p.m., and be played at the Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Fans can hear the game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sideline. The pre-game show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff.
Fans also can follow live stats over the Internet by clicking the "Gametracker" link at UHCougars.com.
CTSM will televise the annual homecoming game on a pay-per-view basis in the states of Alabama and Texas. The game will also be distributed on ESPN Game Plan through DirecTV and Dish Networks.
The Cougars (2-2, 1-1 C-USA West) come into the game after a disappointing 37-35 loss to Conference USA rival East Carolina last weekend at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
But, Briles has been pleased with how his team responded in its first two days of practice.
"They have been outstanding," Briles said. "Young people are resilient and that is what I like about them. They have a lot of trust and faith, and keep a lot of hidden agendas. They are charging forward with confidence.
"We realize that somewhere along the line we have to get one back."
