HOUSTON - 2006 Houston Cougars Football Postgame Notes

** Houston improved to 24-9 (.727) in the all-time series against Rice... The Cougars have won consecutive game against the Owls and four of the last five games.
** Houston improved to 30-29-2 (508) in all-time season openers... The Cougars snapped a two-game losing streak in season openers and won their initial game of the season for the first time since a 48-14 win at Rice on Aug. 30, 2003 in head coach Art Briles' UH debut.
** Houston improved to 29-14-1 (.670) in all-time conference openers... Cougars improved to 7-4 (.636) in all-time C-USA openers.
** Houston improved to 74-64-1 (.536) all-time against Conference USA opponents.
** Houston improved to 73-84-4 (.469) in the month of September.
** Houston improved to 102-98-8 (.510) all-time against teams from the state of Texas.
** Cougars improved to 2-2 (.500) all-time when playing on Sept. 2.
** The Cougars' win, after trailing 30-14 in the third quarter, was the first time since Nov. 26 2005, against Rice at Robertson Stadium that the Cougars rallied from a 10-point deficit to win the game... In that 2005 game, the Cougars trailed 10-0 with 3:14 remaining in the first quarter.
** With three touchdown passes, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb recorded the 18th game of his career with at least two touchdown passes... It also was the sixth time during this career that he threw at least three TD passes in a game.
** With 22 pass completions, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past Chuck Clemens (683, 1993-96) into third place in UH career history with 694 completions... Up next in the UH records book is David Klingler, who completed 726 passes from 1988-91.
** With 233 passing yards, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past former Tulane quarterback Patrick Ramsey (9,205 yards, 1998-01) into fifth place in Conference USA career history with 9,388 career passing yards... Up next in the C-USA records book is UAB quarterback Darrell Hackney, who threw for 9,886 yards from 2002-05.
** With 44 receiving yards, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved past Orlando Iglesias (2,810 yards, 1997-01) into third place in UH career history with 2,835 yards... Up next in the UH records book is Brandon Middleton, who recorded 2,873 receiving yards from 1999-03.
** With five receptions, junior wide receiver Jeron Harvey set a personal single-game high in that category... He topped his previous high of four receptions against Southern Miss on Nov. 13, 2005.
** Senior quarterback Kevin Kolb made the 37th consecutive start of his career.
** With his 8-yard touchdown reception at the 13:41 mark of the fourth quarter, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall broke out of a tie with Jason Phillips (1987-88) and moved into sole possession of fifth place in UH career history with 19 touchdown catches... Up next in the UH records book is Ken Hebert, who hauled in 22 TD receptions from 1965-67.
** With 69 all-purpose yards (44 receiving, 25 returns), senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved past Robert Newhouse (3,246 yards, 1969-71) into seventh place in UH career history with 3,464 all-purpose yards (240 rush, 2,835 receiving, 186 kickoff return, 200 punt return)... Up next in the UH records book is Elmo Wright, who recorded 3,482 all-purpose yards from 1968-70.
** With the 8-yard touchdown reception at the 13:41 mark of the fourth quarter, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb connected with senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall for the 19th time in their collegiate careers... That total ties with Andre Ware-Manny Hazard (1989) for the most UH career history.
** With his reception on the Cougars' opening drive, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall recorded a reception in his 37th consecutive game.
** Senior running back Roshawn Pope's two receptions for 42 yards and two rushes for 31 yards were the firsts of his collegiate career in both categories after playing the previous four years as a cornerback.
** Senior punter Justin Laird's 60-yard punt around the 3:55 mark of the third quarter was the longest kick of his career... It bested his previous long of 59 yards set against Kansas on Dec. 23, 2005, during the Fort Worth Bowl.
** Junior Anthony Alridge's 79-yard kickoff return to open the game was the longest of his career. ** Senior Roshawn Pope made the first reception of his career around the 2:29 mark of the first quarter.
** Sophomore defensive back Ernest Miller's interception at the 2:49 mark of the fourth quarter was the first of his career.
** FIRST STARTS:
Sophomore Jake Ebner made his first career start at tight end... Sophomore Ernest Miller also made his first career start at nickel back.
