HOUSTON - Sophia Mundy (Katy, Texas/St. Pius X/Portland State) was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
It is Mundy's first career weekly C-USA honor and the first for a UH player since 2004. The last Houston player to win a weekly C-USA award was Nikki Hawkins on Sept. 13, 2004.
Mundy tallied three goals on the weekend as UH defeated McNeese State (3-1) and Texas State (4-1). The senior All-America candidate recorded the game-winner against McNeese and netted a pair of goals against the Bobcats for the fifth multiple-goal game of her career.
Mundy, with seven goals on the season and 21 in her two-year UH career, took sole possession of second place on the career scoring chart with and needs six to equal Hawkins' (2001-04) career mark of 27.
Houston (6-4), winners of its past three games, opens up C-USA action at Robertson Stadium this weekend, facing Southern Miss and UCF, Friday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., respectively.
