Houston, Texas - After taking Sunday off, the University of Houston football team returned to the practice fields today, working out under inclement skies for well over two hours. The Cougars are beginning their second week during the fall preseason.
With less than 30 days left prior to the season opener on September 2 at Rice, UH head coach Art Briles is pleased with his team's progress after four tough practices.
"I was enthusiastic with our performance today," Briles said. "We practiced with great effort, which is always nice to see this early in the preseason. We looked sharp on both sides of the ball, and we really worked the special teams hard, especially towards the end of practice.
"We continue to move forward in hopes of making this a better football team."
The Cougars will return to the practice field at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, August 8. Houston student-athletes are not only preparing for the 2006, but a majority of the squad also is wrapping summer school with finals this week. UH is slated to hold two-a-day practices next week.
