HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team returned outside to the UH Athletics Complex after a day inside the Yeoman Fieldhouse for a vigorous two-hour workout Thursday afternoon under cloudy conditions.
The Cougars worked on quick hitting passing routes and concluded the session working on goal line situations on offense.
"It's good to get back outside where football is predominately played," head coach Art Briles said. "We got some good work in today. We're hoping to do the same thing tomorrow and Saturday before getting back into a regular game week Sunday."
The defensive side of the ball was filled with hard hitting and activity all afternoon, forcing multiple turnovers.
"You can sense the intensity level rising over the last couple days of practice," Briles said. "The team is eager to get out on the field and face the opposition. We're in great shape physically. Our focus over the next week will be not to let our mind, intensity and determination wander."
This weekend the UH Athletics Department will hold a Football Fan Appreciation Day beginning at 4:30 p.m., Saturday in the Athletics/Alumni Center. All Cougar fans are encouraged to attend.
The 2006 Cougar Football team and coaching staff will be in attendance to sign autographs and be available for photos. Free Double Dave's Pizza and refreshments will be provided as well as interactive games such as 20-yard shuttle, field-goal kicking, Cougar tire toss and a College Football Video Game Experience showcasing NCAA Football 2007 by EA Sports. Doors open at 4 p.m., with games and food available around 4:30 p.m.. At 5 p.m., the team will enter the complex with the band and cheerleaders.
