Houston - As temperatures continue to soar in the Bayou City, the University of Houston football team remained calm and collected through its two-and-a-half practice this afternoon on the UH Practice Fields. Running through the workout in helmets and shoulder pads, the Cougars continued to improve on the field in preparation for the 2006 season.
Again, despite the heat and humidity, UH head coach Art Briles seemed pleased with the way his team keeps marching through the preseason workouts.
"It was quite warm and not really breezy," said Briles. "The guys fought through it way, and I was very proud of their attitude, effort, focus and intensity. All of these are where they need to be. Now, we have to keep going on the path we're on."
With Friday's scrimmage looming in the distance, the Cougars will return for two-a-days tomorrow with practices in the morning and late afternoon. Still, Briles knows these "dog days" of summer will bear fruit this fall.
"We're trying to stay sharp, be crisp and intelligent, be precise and just be ourselves," commented Briles. "That is the main thing right now at this stage of camp."
Preseason camp officially will end this weekend, and the first day of school is Monday, August 21. Houston will move into its normal weekly routine of practicing Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday while taking Mondays off.
