Houston, Texas - Three members of the University of Houston offense have been selected by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) preseason All-America Checklist.
Quarterback Kevin Kolb, wide receiver Vincent Marshall and offensive tackle SirVincent Rogers were named by the organization as "Players to Watch" in 2006.
A member of the Maxwell Award Watch List, Kolb has already been selected by The Sporting News as its preseason Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year. Last week Kolb was picked to participate in the East-West Shrine All-Star Game to be played in January 2007.
Kolb enters his senior season this fall as one of the nation's top offensive stars. Kolb has started 36 straight games, which is number one in the nation among Division I-A quarterbacks. Kolb enters the 2006 season with 9,155 passing yards as well as 9,752 yards of total offense, numbers that rank him No. 1 among active career leaders.
Kolb passed for a career-best 3,258 yards last season en route to being selected Third Team, All-Conference USA. In 2005, Kolb passed David Klingler as the school's all-time leader in total offense and is close to owning all the UH passing/total offense marks.
Marshall has been Kolb's favorite target over the past three seasons, and he and Kolb enter the 2006 as the nation's number-one passing tandem. A First-Team, All-C-USA selection last season, Marshall enters this season on a consecutive reception streak of 36 straight games.
On the verge of breaking all the UH receiving marks, Marshall has 192 career receptions for 2,791 yards and 18 touchdowns.
As for Rogers, the two-year starter recently was named to the Outland Trophy Watch List. Rogers was named Conference USA Third Team in 2005 after helping solidify the UH offensive line with his move from right tackle to the opposite side. Rogers was one of only nine players to start all 12 game and helped open holes for a 1,000-yard rusher (Ryan Gilbert) and protected a 3,000-yard passer (Kevin Kolb).
Rogers broke on to the scene as a true freshman in 2004, jumping into the starting lineup in fourth game of the season against nationally ranked Miami (Fla.). He was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team.
