Shamblin Garners NFCA All-South Region Second-Team Accolades

STARKVILLE, Miss. - After setting new program single-season records in wins and strikeouts, Angel Shamblin was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-South Region Second Team Wednesday morning as announced by the NFCA.

This is the first All-Region award for Shamblin and the Cougar pitching staff in program history. Houston has placed a player on the All-South Region Second Team in each of the last four seasons.

"This is a wonderful accomplishment for Angel as a sophomore and another program first," head coach Kyla Holas said. "We expect big things out of her in the future after proving she is the best pitcher in Conference USA last season."

Shamblin was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Year and was an All-Conference First-Team selection. She was one of only three pitchers to win C-USA Pitcher of the Week award three times and was just the second player in league history to hold both Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honor in the same week on March 13.

The Davie, Fla., product finished the season with a 16-10 mark and a 1.71 ERA. Her 16 victories were a program single-season record, while her 1.71 ERA was third in C-USA. She also set a program single-season mark, recording 182 strikeouts in 172 innings of work after averaging 7.41 Ks per seven innings.

Shamblin tossed shutouts against No. 22 Oregon, Marshall, Southern Miss, UAB and Grambling State this season. With her totals from this season, Shamblin boosted her career shutout mark to nine, which is third-highest in program history.

Houston concluded the season setting a new program record with a 40-23 mark and a third-place finish at the C-USA Championship a weekend ago.
