GARLAND - The No. 3 seeded University of Houston tennis team will square off with No. 6 seeded East Carolina Friday afternoon in the Conference USA quarterfinals.
First serve against the Pirates is scheduled for 2pm at the Garland Tennis Center outside of Dallas and live stats will be available on UHCougars.com.
The Pirates (19-8) knocked off No. 11 seeded Memphis 4-0 Wednesday to move into the quarterfinal round for the first time since the 2003 season.
"East Carolina is a solid team," Houston head coach John Severance said. "They have won 19 matches just like we have. You have to be successful to do things like that. We know that we'll have to bring our best brand of tennis to advance."
The strength of the Pirates is in the middle of the lineup where Mireia Gol has registered a 13-2 mark at No. 3 singles followed by Luiza Borgos 9-2 record in the No. 4 hole during the spring season.
Houston (19-4) also has its strength in the middle of the lineup and is headlined by Kami Miller, who enters the weekend with a career 95-35 all-time singles record. Miller is two wins shy of moving into the No. 6 hole in career singles victories. She will play No. 4 singles for the Cougars where she is 13-2 this season.
Following Miller will be freshman Vicky Simpson in the No. 5 slot where she has tallied an 11-3 mark.
Yolandi Terblance returns to the bottom of the lineup after missing singles action most of the last month of the season with an injury.
The Cougars have won its last five opening matches at the C-USA Tournament and are looking for its fourth consecutive semifinal appearance.
